Bleh…

Posted in Movies, Random, School, Update with tags , , , , on September 30, 2011 by Samantha Rose

So I was originally going to write this post as a review of a movie, but I don’t have the energy to do an in-depth review of a movie right now. So I’ll just say this about the movie: I went to see Contagion with one of my best friends. It was a really intense thriller, but not quite what I expected it to be. The beginning was kind of disturbing, but then it got much better. Overall, it was really good and I would recommend it. Also, the music was very fitting and made everything so much better.

School is school. The year is not going fast enough though! I’m trying to enjoy everything while it lasts, but it’s hard to not compare everything to what I could be doing in Seattle. It’s been a struggle for me this year. I’m so desperate to go out to Seattle that I find myself having difficulty being content here. Needless to say, I cannot wait to go visit Marcy and Travis in a few weeks! I love going out this time of year. Seattle’s fall is so different from Montana’s fall. Seattle is just so different. The two really can’t be compared in my mind.

Well, I really don’t have much else to update on…so I guess that’s where this blog will end!!! Have a great weekend!!

It’s About Time, Pottermore!

Posted in Books, Harry Potter, Movies with tags , , , , , on September 24, 2011 by Samantha Rose

So I FINALLY got my Pottermore e-mail!! I’m not very far into the site yet, but I have learned a few things already. So, here they are. (Sorry for those of you who don’t understand or if I spoil anything for anyone.)

1. The site has no music. It’s a bummer, but some people have been watching the movie while playing, or listening to the soundtracks through iTunes or whatever. I personally just listen to my iTunes library on shuffle because it doesn’t really matter to me. Sure, it would be cool to listen to the soundtrack while exploring the site, but it’s not a big deal for me.

2. Brewing potions is really hard. It took some time for me to figure it out, and I actually ended up getting on skype and asking Molly how to do it. Turns out I was putting the wrong thing into the potion. It was much easier once I learned how to correctly read instructions. 😉

3. The directions for casting spells are not very clear. So if you’re having trouble with spells, this is how you do it. Click on the first letter of the spell, click it again once the circle around the letter is at the biggest and brightest point. That will shoot a line towards the next letter. Click the next letter in the spell once that line is close or on the letter. Repeat this process until the spell is cast! (hope that helped!)

4. The site is meant as a companion to the books, so there isn’t a whole lot to do if you’re looking to play games. Mostly it’s reading and collecting little items for your trunk. This may change as the site develops, so we’ll wait and see.

Right now, I am really enjoying the site. It’s fun to hear more about the characters, places, and objects, and the site is really beautiful. If you’re on Pottermore, add me! My username is ChestnutPatronus162, and I’m a Hufflepuff. (Wasn’t super excited about Hufflepuff…I always thought of myself as a Ravenclaw but whatever!)

Briefly

Posted in Movies, Random, School, Update with tags , , , , , on September 16, 2011 by Samantha Rose

This post is gonna be short because I’ve got a lot to do tonight! It’s homecoming week so we have the big game tonight and then a dance after.

Homecoming was pretty fun this year. We have a new principal in our school and he’s actually pretty awesome. He played macho volleyball today, trash talked the seniors while playing volleyball, was ready to take a pie in the face yesterday (luckily for him one of the gym teachers got it instead) and seems to want to make things fun for the teachers and students.

In other exciting news, my ukulele came in the mail this week!! Since it was homecoming I haven’t had much time to play it, but I am already starting to learn Somewhere Over the Rainbow (amazing how quickly Youtube can teach you how to play a ukulele)!!!

Star Wars came out on BluRay today. I want a BluRay player just so I can watch Star Wars on it. Although I’m not sure how I feel about them changing the movies a bit. Why fix what wasn’t broken, right?

My classes are going fairly well…Spanish is fun, my TA period is awesome, and I usually have little, if any, homework, which is really nice!

Anyway, I’ve got to go get ready for tonight…I’ll post something more later this weekend if I have the chance…

Hunger Games and Pottermore

Posted in Books, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Movies, Twilight with tags , , , , , , , on September 1, 2011 by Samantha Rose

No, I have not yet entered into Pottermore. I’m getting so impatient!! Although it would be awesome to be a Gryffindor, I would love to be a Ravenclaw. Heck, I’d settle for Slytherin! Just please, someone shoot me if I’m in Hufflepuff. Just kidding…kind of. I mean, everyone knows Hufflepuff is the worst house, right?!? (Sorry if you were placed in Hufflepuff…) Ok for those of you wondering what the heck I’m rambling about, it’s about Harry Potter/Pottermore. Once you enter Pottermore, you are sorted to one of the four houses (Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, or Hufflepuff.) But I haven’t been in to Pottermore yet…but I’ll post about it once I do get in.

Another really amazing book series is the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. The series is being made into movies (Of course..) which I’m actually really excited for. I had my doubts about the cast, but after viewing the teaser trailer and several movie stills, I have faith in the cast. Anyway, Lionsgate has recently opened an interactive site with the Hunger Games. Although nothing is really available yet, you can be placed in a District (There are 12 Districts in Panem, which is basically the country of the book). I got District 8-the textile district. There is another fan-made site which has also yet to be fully opened. Again, you can be placed in a District. I was placed in District 11 (Rue’s district!) on this website. Both sites look interesting, and I look forward to seeing more from them.

A while ago, I posted about Twimore, a spoof of Pottermore made by Kaleb Nation. Although Twimore was a spoof, it does make you wonder if there will be an interactive site for the Twilight Saga soon. Stephenie Meyer’s site rarely posts, although other fan sites are going strong. To be honest, I hardly keep up with the Twilight Saga anymore, and I haven’t seen Eclipse since I watched it in theaters. (A bit of a shock, right?) Even if Twilight doesn’t have an interactive site, I feel like these types of sites could become standard for popular book series. They certainly do offer an in-depth experience of the novels, and I’m excited to see what Pottermore and the Hunger Games’ sites will be like.

So what do you think? Should interactive sites for novels become a thing?

Cool Stuff

Posted in Movies, Photos, Random, This post comes out of boredom.. with tags , , , , on August 16, 2011 by Samantha Rose

So..this post is about, well, cool stuff I guess. (Because that’s not super vague or anything…)

1. Webcam!! I just installed our webcam on our computer so I can do cool stuff like this….

2. Google Chrome, which I downloaded because I wanted this photo editing software…little did I know that Google Chrome is one of the coolest things ever. At least right now, anyway. It’s probably actually not that cool, but I just think it is because I just started using it.

3. The editing software mentioned above, which lets me do cool stuff like this….

4. BFF Taylor on Youtube (and Twitter). I just started watching her channel, and she’s hilarious! She’s really crazy and hyper pretty much all the time, but that’s ok!

5. This…

6. The Computernerd on Youtube and Twitter…also this shirt by him…

7. This (very expensive) necklace from Tiffany & Co.

8. The Hunger Games movie. The books were awesome, and judging by the few pictures released from filming, the movie is going to be amazing too.

9. This shop on Etsy that does really cool car decals.

10. The show How I Met Your Mother. Me & Molly watch it most mornings because it is so funny! Our favorite is Barney, played by Neil Patrick Harris.

Question

Posted in Movies, Questions with tags , , on June 17, 2011 by Samantha Rose

Hey everyone!! It’s been a long time since I’ve blogged, but I’m off of school for the summer and I’m not working so I thought I would start blogging again!
Anyway…me and my family (being the nerds we are) were having a conversation about Star Wars the other night.  Then we started talking about Darth Vader, and we ran into a problem.  We can’t figure out if Darth Vader is a cyborg or if he is just a person with prosthetics.  So for all you Star Wars fans, what do you think?  Is Darth Vader a cyborg or does he just have prosthetics?  Or is he something else?
Leave a comment saying what you think or you can leave me a message on Twitter (http://twitter.com/samanthaG_2013)
Talk to you later guys!

Baby food, Bandslam, and Need

Posted in Books, Friends, Movies, Random with tags , , , on March 21, 2010 by Samantha Rose

Last night, I hung out with one of my best friends.  One of our favorite people on Youtube did a video where he ate different flavors and kinds of baby food to see which one was the best.  We were in the baby food aisle, for no reason, and we started talking about the video.  She asked me if I had ever had the banana baby food.  I said no.  So we picked some up so I could try it.  Then we decided to do our own experiment with the baby food.  So we purchased nine different kinds of baby food and ate them.  It was horrible.  It was also a very bad idea.  However, it was very fun.  I could still taste the Butternut Squash for the rest of the night though.

We also watched a movie after we ate the horrible baby food.  We watched Bandslam.  I did not expect it to be very good, but it was!  The main guy in the movie was very awkward.  He kind of reminded me of Andy Samberg, except he was not cute and he looked super awkward.  There is this really funny scene where he is listening to his Ipod and dancing down the hallway.  It made us laugh sooo hard.  Anyway, the movie was really good.

This week I read a book called Need.  It is by Carrie Jones.  When I first started reading it, I was not really sure how good it was going to be.  It was random and I felt like there was a book before it.  (There is not a book before it.  It is the first book in the series.)  But soon, I really got into it and started to love it.  It ended up being such a great book.  I really want to read the second book, but I am broke, so I cannot buy it!  I could see if the library has it, but my guess is that they do not.  Anyway, if you are looking for a good fantasy book (it had pixies and a werewolf) then you should definitely read it.
