Cool Stuff

Another list of some cool things!! =) (This one is just 5 things because I have to go decorate for Homecoming in a bit…)

1. Bon Iver. I just discovered this band, although they are not new. Bon Iver’s first CD, titled For Emma, Forever Ago was released in 2007. Justin Vernon recorded the bulk of this album while spending three months in a cabin, pretty much alone, in Wisconsin. The band’s second CD, a self-titled album, was released in June of this year. Although both albums are good, my favorite is For Emma, Forever Ago. The songs are beautiful and very different (I think) from anything else I have on my iPod. Which is a good thing I think. Also, Bon Iver radio on Pandora is just as awesome.

2. Jon McLaughlin‘s new CD. Jon McLaughlin is one of my favorite singers. The first time I ever heard him was at the Kelly Clarkson concert I went to a few years ago. He was her opening act and my goodness, he’s amazing live! Molly and I soon fell in love with his music. His first CD, titled Indiana, was released in 2007 and his second album, titled OK Now, was released a year later. Now, he’s released his next album (a 3 year wait!! Ugh) titled Forever If Ever. I bought it yesterday, and I’m already in love, even though I haven’t listened to the whole album yet. My favorite song so far is My Girl Tonight.

3. Kate McGill. I found this girl on Youtube one day while looking for a cover of a song (I don’t even remember what it was anymore). She usually sings in her bathroom, but even so she always sounds amazing! She’s releasing her debut album this month, on the 26th. I’m very excited about it! I wish I lived in the UK though because that’s where her tour is going to be (she’s from the UK so it makes sense). Guess I’ll have to go spend a few months over there! =)

4. Capes. Sounds a little weird, right? I don’t mean superhero capes, but fashionable, I-want-to-wear-this-everyday capes. My favorite is a BHLDN cape that Lily Collins wore in the October issue of Teen Vogue. BHLDN has a ton of gorgeous capes, boleros, cardigans for your wedding day. However, they are super expensive! (The one I love is $400…Yikes!) Forever 21 does have a very affordable trench cape that I wouldn’t mind owning!

5. H&M. I LOVE this store. Unfortunately there isn’t one in Montana, so I rarely shop there. Their ads (TV and print) are amazing, their clothes are amazing, and the stores themselves are really fun to be in. If there was one closer to me, I’m sure I would spend a lot of time in it.

Well, today is my last day of summer. I start my junior year tomorrow..scary!! I’m actually looking forward to starting the year…because once I’m done with this year, then I’ll be a senior! And then I will graduate! So I’m really only looking forward to starting the year because it means I’m one step closer to graduation day. But oh well. At least something about school excites me, right?

There actually is something else about school that excites me! (Are you shocked? Because you probably should be.) I’m going to be taking Spanish this year! It’s an online course but I’m still really excited about it. I’ve wanted to learn Spanish for a while now and this year it actually worked with my schedule. I’m hoping this school year will be more fun and less stressful than last year.

Something else I’m looking forward to is getting paid this week from my weekend job. Why am I so excited to get paid? Well besides the fact that getting money is always nice, I’m planning to do something really fun with this paycheck. I’m going to order a ukulele offline!! I think the ukulele looks like a lot of fun to play, so I decided I would get one and teach myself how to play. There are a lot of good tutorials on Youtube that I plan on using and there is a really awesome site called the Ukulele Underground which I also plan on using once I get my ukulele. So maybe if I ever get good enough I’ll post a little video of a ukulele song…we’ll see about that!!

So that’s what’s going on with me this week…

Some of my current favorite things:

1. Book in the Bible: Psalms. Always. I think Psalms is one of those books that has something for everyone…

2. Verse: I couldn’t pick just one, so here are a few of my favorites…
Psalms 34:18 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Psalms 116:6-9 “The Lord protects the simplehearted; when I was in great need, he saved me. Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the Lord has been good to you. for you, O Lord, have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before the Lord in the land of the living.”
Matthew 6:27 “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”
Matthew 5:3-5 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”
Acts 20:24 “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me–the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.”

3. Song: Shipwreck by Starfield This song really means a lot to me…I can still remember hearing it for the first time in Seattle, sitting at the desk in our room at the Ronald McDonald House and just sobbing. This song made me start listening to Starfield again, and that band is the reason why I went to the Dare 2 Share conference in Seattle a couple of years ago. That conference renewed my faith and strength in the Lord. I don’t know where I would be today if I hadn’t gone there and had the experience that I did.

4. One of my favorite places (in town) : The museum at sunset…it’s gorgeous & it’s where I usually go to take pictures…I also go out on those roads to walk at night. It’s breathtaking…

5. Activity: Besides relaxing and enjoying summer, taking pictures of our garden and flowers around town to remind myself that winter does not last forever…

6. Rediscovering how much I love to blog and write…will hopefully continue to do it more often!! After I’m done posting this…I have decided to try to write some poetry again. I haven’t written poetry in what feels like forever. I do have story in my mind though…but we’ll see how that goes.

So..I don’t really know what to write here. Which is kind of unusual for me, because usually I just write whatever I’m feeling at the moment. But lately I’ve been regretting what I’ve been writing. But I feel like I can’t delete posts. I don’t know. I guess I just feel like, ‘you know, that’s what i was really feeling at that time, and it’s my blog, so why should i edit a whole bunch of my feelings on my blog?’ If that makes any sense. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I just feel a little..awkward knowing that after I’m done with my ranting and stuff that then I send it out in to the web-world, where anyone can read it, and it’s freaky a little bit, you know? But I don’t want to pretend that everything is just hunky-dory, because I’ve been having a lot of off days, and I feel that it’s important for people to read about the good and the bad. But I will try to write more on my good days, ‘kay?

So, today has been a pretty good day. I saw Inkheart yesterday with my mom. I love those books, and the movie was good. It made me angry that they changed the end though. That wasn’t even the end of Inkheart, it was the beginning of the second book. And it was done differently in the second book, so it made me angry a little bit. But it was a good cast, and the changes they did make were okay ones. You should all go see it. And also read the book by Cornelia Funke. And as long as you’re reading good books you should read The Thief Lord (I think that’s also by Cornelia Funke) and you should read The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak.

Twilight comes out on DVD March 21st!!!!I’m super excited. I want to go buy it on that day, but Molly insists on going to her prom, silly girl. =)

I’m listening to my ‘Warwick Avenue’ station on Pandora. It’s a good one, except they just played a song by Amy Winehouse. Ick.

School is going alright. Science fair is Monday. I’m kind of freaking out about doing a presentation. I’m not sure me and my partner are ready. *panic face* Other school news….it’s almost the middle of third quarter, which makes me excited. I’m halfway done with shop class. Whoot.

It’s still very cold here. It snowed last night. *sad face*

I like the way Norah Jones’s voice sounds. Her music is played on a lot of my Pandora stations, which is fine by me. =)

Molly’s bird is spazzing out right now as she’s eating. She’s a bit of an odd ball. (Molly’s bird…not Molly. Although Molly is rather odd too…)

I read Midnight Sun on Stephenie Meyer’s website. -sigh- Edward…..

Marcy read the Twilight series. (Can I have New Moon back, Marcy?)  She’s my favorite person now. =)

I think that’s enough randomness for the moment, don’t you think?

Stupid Technology

Posted in Movies, Music, Random, Update with tags , , , , , on November 14, 2008 by Samantha Rose

Our laptop is perhaps the stupidest laptop ever created. It won’t recognize my Zune anymore, so I can’t put the much-listened to Twilight Soundtrack on my Zune. It won’t accept an internet connection, so now if we want to get on the internet to check our e-mail, we have to do it at one of my parents’ work-places or the library. I know we’ve gone without internet before, so why does it seem so hard now? Probably because it was just a part of our daily life for so long, it seems weird not to have it right in our house anymore. -sigh- So my posts will probably be not as frequent as they were at some point in time. (Maybe I can make up by making them extra-long. So, expect lots of words!!)

Twilight comes out in a week! A WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!! I seriously could not be any more excited. Oh, wait. Yes, I can. I will be tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day….=) We’re hoping for a midnight showing at our theatre here. That would be amazing! I mentioned the Twilight soundtrack. It is awesome. There isn’t a single song that I skip. Rob’s song is amazing, though he kind of mumbles. But he mumbles really well! =) Paramore’s songs are amazing. Muse is amazing. Everyone is amazing on that soundtrack! (It’s also the first soundtrack to ever get number one on the charts before the movie came out! Go Twilight!) My birthday is in 9 days, and from my wonderful sister Marcy, I got a necklace. It’s got three charms, and they each have a Twilight-thing on them. One says OCD Obsessive Cullen Disorder Another says ‘Twilight Addict’ and the third says ‘Fanpire’. Very cool. They’re on the backs of scrabble pieces, which only makes it cooler! It’s a very cool gift. (I also have worn it every single day since I got it…hehe)

Tonight is Missoula Children’s Theatre. I think me and Molly are going to go to it. This year they’re putting on a production of Red Riding Hood. It’s always fun to watch.

Next week is my last week of art class. =( But then I go to reading with one of my favorite teachers, so it all works out okay. I’m out of gym class now, and I have Health instead. I’ve enjoyed having a break from the running, but it still seems a little weird sitting down instead of standing up during first period. =)

The Office was on last night. Funny as always. And, Jim and Pam didn’t break up! Yay! We all kind of thought they were heading in that direction, but then Pam came back to Scranton, and they are once again PB&J! (Pam Beesly and Jim)

Well, that’s all I’ve got to say for right now. Enjoy your weekend!

Labor Day Weekend

Posted in Movies, Music, Random with tags , , on September 1, 2008 by Samantha Rose

I was very happy to have a long weekend. I was planning on sleeping for most of it. =) That didn’t happen. I woke up at 7:30 every morning this weekend. I was not happy about that. But, at least I’m starting to get a routine now.

Yesterday we decided we would go to Great Falls and go to  movie and then get dinner. Me and Molly were really excited that the theatre there had The House Bunny. After watching twenty minutes of previews (in my opinion, that’s way too many previews..) the movie finally started. After seeing a ton of previews for The House Bunny, I thought it would be hilarious. Yeah. We were disappointed. It wasn’t actually that good. It was actually mostly stupid. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Molly finally got her Justin Nozuka CD yesterday though. I’m still listening to it right now, so I’ll rate it later. So far it’s pretty good, but I’ve only listened to three Yeah.

So, I survived the first day.

It began with me being late-ish. We had orientation first thing, and when I got to the school, they had already gone in. I went to my orientation class, to find out that I was the second-to-last person to arrive. And, I had to be shown the right room by the principal. This didn’t help me much. I mean, I was not excited about school. I don’t really like it. (except english class…I don’t mind that too much.) Luckily, me and my best friend have every single class together except for one. That one just happens to be French. -sigh-

French class is already going bad. I have no idea what she’s saying! She talks really fast in French. Everyone else in the class has had at least one year of French. Not me. Thankfully, I sit right next to one of my friends, and she happens to be one of the best in the class. She was pretty much my translator today.

Things have been going pretty good. I’m just really tired already. I forgot how much energy it takes to sit in a desk and actually try to listen…=)

On a different note, I’ve really wanted to listen to some good techno bands, but I don’t know any. I’ve heard a few little bits of songs, but I don’t really know who their by. So, if anyone can recommend a really good techno band, please do.
